This course follows on from New Venture Creation 1: First Steps towards Spin-Outs and Start-Ups. The course will provide a substantial grounding for those wishing to understand more and reinforce knowledge about forming new companies.

The creation of new business ventures is an important route for knowledge transfer (KT).  New ventures include traditional "spin-outs" and, increasingly, the creation of new vehicles for the management of joint ventures amongst universities, public sector and industry.  Whilst the models are different, the principles are similar.  This course looks at the practical aspects required to develop new business ventures and spin-out companies including business models, pitching opportunities, financing, the key agreements, building the team, directorships and post deal management, all with real life examples and input from people who have been involved (investors, lawyers, founders, entrepreneurs).

Suitable for: This advanced level course is aimed at those with at least eighteen month’s experience in technology transfer, primarily KT professionals working as "spin-out specialists" with some previous experience of spin out creation, and those responsible for the formation of new businesses and joint ventures.  This course is designed to complement New Venture Creation 1, but does not require prior attendance at that course.  A working knowledge of contracts and IP management will be assumed.
