R&D/Innovation Director - Semiconductor Technology (REWIRE)

The role

At REWIRE – we are an Innovation and Knowledge Centre (IKC) funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), our aim is to accelerate the UK’s ambition for net zero by transforming the next generation of high voltage electronic devices using wide/ultra-wide bandgap compound semiconductors.

We are looking for a R&D Director, who will work closely with the Academic Director (Professor Kuball) to advise on strategic industry partnerships and pathways for the commercialization of REWIRE technology. These technologies are the essential building blocks for some of the exciting and innovative projects we have on going, such as ultra-high voltage (UHV) net-zero enabling all-electric trains, ships and heavy goods electric vehicles (EV), charging infrastructure, renewable energy and their High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) grid connections.

As a collaboration between academic researchers in Bristol, Cambridge and Warwick and industry partners, led by Bristol, the role holder will help propel REWIRE to drive the transition of technologies that emerge from fundamental research towards proof-of-concept, commercialisation, and exploitation

What will you be doing?

Work with the Academic Director of the IKC, leading on the development of new partnerships and propositions that could lead to commercial investment, bringing together knowledge and capabilities for regional, national and global impact.

Focus on building partnership opportunities by engaging with external organisations in particular in the commercial sector, and relevant academic and professional services staff across the research portfolio of the Universities.

Manage and support the research & development of others including leadership of capacity building and thematic initiatives, particularly those aligned with IKC’s and University research challenge areas and the industrial landscape in Net Zero semiconductor technology.

You should apply if

A proven track record of relevant, extensive experience in the Semiconductor Electronic industry/commercial sector, demonstrating an authoritative understanding of the relevant industries;

Experience in senior management expertise and wide exposure to complex practices and precedents;
